Walmart Recalls Expert Grill Brushes Ingestion Hazard

Product Recall Alert

Walmart has recalled roughly 4.4 million Expert Grill brush units sold nationwide after reports that wire bristles can detach during use and end up in food, creating a serious ingestion hazard. The recall, issued through the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, covers grill cleaning brushes sold in Walmart stores and online across the country.

What's Being Recalled?

The recall covers Expert Grill wire bristle grill brushes sold under lot codes EG-2214, EG-2231, and EG-2247, printed on the plastic handle near the base. The brushes were sold in packaging labeled "Expert Grill BBQ Cleaning Brush," priced around $8 to $12, and were available in Walmart stores and on Walmart.com nationwide from January 2024 through August 2026.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

Loose wire bristles can break off the brush head during grill cleaning and remain stuck to grates. When food is cooked afterward, those bristles can transfer to meat and other items, posing a choking and ingestion hazard that can cause injury to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract. This is a notable safety concern for anyone preparing food on a grill cleaned with one of these brushes, and households that grill frequently should treat this as a priority check.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the brush immediately and check the handle for lot codes EG-2214, EG-2231, or EG-2247. If your brush matches, throw it away rather than donating or reselling it, since the defect makes it unsafe for anyone to use. Walmart is offering a refund or store credit for affected units; bring the brush or proof of purchase to any Walmart location, or contact Walmart customer service for return instructions. Anyone who suspects they've ingested a wire bristle should contact a healthcare provider.
