Natural Grocers Recalls Organic Mung Beans Over Glass

Product Recall Alert

Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Inc., of Lakewood, Colorado, is recalling Natural Grocers Brand Organic 2-Pound Mung Beans sold by Natural Grocers because they may contain pieces of glass. The company announced the recall on Oct. 22, 2026, after customers complained about sharp glass fragments in the product. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date. Check your pantry before you cook, since a quick look could protect your household.

What's Being Recalled?

The recall covers Natural Grocers Brand Organic 2-Pound Mung Beans, which the notice also calls Bulk Organic Mung Beans. They come in 2-pound clear plastic bags with UPC 000080112600. Five pack dates are affected: 26-160, 26-173, 26-196, 26-224 and 26-258. You will find the code in the lower left corner of the label. These are pack dates, not expiration dates. The affected lots may have shipped to Natural Grocers stores in 22 states starting June 10, 2026: AR, AZ, CO, IA, ID, KS, LA, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WI and WY. The notice does not list a price or sale date range.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The recall is due to possible foreign material contamination with glass. According to the FDA notice, swallowing glass may cause damage to teeth, cuts to the mouth and throat, or perforation of the intestine. The concern applies to the five specified pack dates, and the announcement does not say every bag contains glass. The company says the recall is being made with the knowledge of the FDA.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the beans right away. Check the lower left corner of the label for one of the five pack dates. If your bag matches, throw it away or return it to a Natural Grocers store for a full refund or credit. Getting your money back is a simple way to protect your wallet along with your family. Questions can go to Natural Grocers at 303-226-1434, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm Mountain time, or by email at [email protected].
