Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc., a Brooklyn, New York wholesale distributor, is voluntarily recalling frozen Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon Sliced over possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The company announced the recall on October 9, 2026, and the FDA posted it on October 16. No illnesses have been reported. The FDA page does not state how many units are affected, and it gives no Class I, II or III rating.
What's Being Recalled?
The recalled item is the 227g (8oz) frozen salmon in a vacuum-sealed plastic package. Look for UPC 4751048940099, lot D080-148, and a best before date of 27.11.2027. The country of origin is Latvia. The company distributes the product but did not manufacture it. It was sold in New York, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The FDA page names no retailers, sale dates or price.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
Sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets identified the potential contamination, and the company then started the recall. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. The company is cooperating with state and federal officials and has notified affected customers, asking them to stop selling the product.
What Should You Do?
Do not eat this salmon. Because it is frozen and the best before date is more than a year away, it could still be sitting in your freezer, so check your packages against the UPC and lot code above. Return any affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Protecting your household also protects your wallet, since you will get your money back. Questions can go to Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. at (718) 858-6720, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET. If you or someone in your home develops symptoms after eating this product, contact a health care provider.
