Imperio Distribution Recalls Beef Jerky Over Inspection

Product Recall Alert

This is a Class I, high-risk recall. Imperio Distribution LLC, an Elgin, Ill. establishment, is recalling about 946 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky that was produced without federal inspection. FSIS announced the recall on Oct. 24, 2026. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury. Protecting your household starts with checking what is in your snack drawer.

What's Being Recalled?

The recall covers 2 oz. sealed bags of Imperio Fuego, Imperio Original and Imperio Limón Beef Jerky (Carne Seca). The bags are iridescent purple, yellow and green, and the words "carne seca" appear at the top of the package next to the English term "beef jerky." The products were packaged from January 2026 to October 2026. They were shipped to various retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. The packages carry a USDA mark of inspection with establishment number "1885," which belongs to another facility and was used without authorization.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The jerky was produced without the benefit of federal inspection and is misbranded because it bears an unauthorized USDA mark of inspection. FSIS discovered the problem during surveillance activities. According to FSIS, food made without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants. No illnesses or injuries have been confirmed so far. Because the product skipped the federal safety checks it should have gone through, there is no way for shoppers to know what is actually in the bag.

What Should You Do?

Do not eat this jerky. Check any 2 oz. bags of Imperio jerky in your home against the flavors, colors and packaging details above. If you have an affected bag, throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund, which keeps your wallet protected too. Anyone concerned about an illness or injury after eating this product should contact a healthcare provider.
