Audi Recalls Q4 e-tron Over Battery Fire Risk

Product Recall Alert

Audi is recalling 9,048 Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron electric vehicles in the US, part of the wider Volkswagen Group EV battery recall. The concern is battery overheating and a possible fire when the vehicle is charged above 80%. Audi says it is not aware of any claims, crashes, fires, injuries or deaths linked to the issue in these vehicles.

What's Being Recalled?

The recall covers model year 2024 to 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron vehicles. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V698, and Audi's own recall number is 93SK. Audi has said most of the affected vehicles were produced for North America. This follows an earlier Volkswagen ID.4 recall, and Volkswagen's battery recalls now total 85,402 EVs worldwide.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

Volkswagen's report says certain charging profiles combined with a state of charge over 80% may trigger thermal propagation, which is when overheating spreads through the battery. The root cause is not yet known. Audi's Product Safety Committee learned of battery thermal events in other Volkswagen Group EVs that use the same batteries. Audi's own investigation then found the same battery and production characteristics in these vehicles.

What Should You Do?

Until a remedy is available, limit charging to 80%. No permanent fix exists yet. You can take your vehicle to an authorized Audi dealer, where a battery diagnostic will be run and, if needed, a temporary 80% charge limit will be set. Interim owner letters are expected to be mailed on December 18, 2026, with more to follow once a remedy is ready. Protecting your household and your wallet starts with checking your vehicle's recall status. Contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 or the NHTSA Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
