A nationwide recall of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Caplets manufactured by Perrigo Company is expanding after the FDA confirmed a packaging error that could lead consumers to take the wrong dose. The affected lots were distributed to retailers across the United States over the past several months, and the agency says an unknown number of bottles were mislabeled with incorrect strength information printed on the outer carton.
What's Being Recalled?
The recall covers 500mg Acetaminophen Extra Strength Caplets sold in 100-count and 225-count bottles under store and generic labels supplied by Perrigo. Affected lot numbers include 23B114, 23D227, and 23F305, with expiration dates ranging from March 2027 through November 2027. Products were sold at major pharmacy chains and grocery retailers nationwide between January 2026 and September 2026, priced around $7 to $12 per bottle.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The FDA classified this a Class II recall, meaning the mislabeling could cause temporary or reversible health effects. Some cartons printed the 500mg caplet dosage information alongside a label that read as if it were a lower-strength product, raising the risk that consumers could unintentionally exceed the recommended daily acetaminophen limit. Excess acetaminophen use can cause liver damage, and the risk is highest for people who take multiple over-the-counter medications containing the same ingredient without realizing it.
What Should You Do?
Check your medicine cabinet for the lot numbers above printed on the bottom of the bottle or side of the carton. If you have an affected lot, stop using it immediately and do not rely on the printed dosage instructions. Retailers are accepting returns for a full refund, and Perrigo has set up a consumer hotline for replacement requests. Anyone who has taken the product and is experiencing symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, or unusual fatigue should contact a healthcare provider right away.
